Ok Zebra at Osheaga 2012

Since the Osheaga lineup was released earlier this year, we knew this would be the perfect opportunity for Ok Zebra to reassemble in a city capable of handling the upcoming ruckus.

We created Limited Edition Osheaga Tanks with the custom Ok Zebra – Bear Mace font for the upcoming festivities. It’s always a blast when custom type is involved and this one was no different.

Defy The Hand You’re Dealt

Inspiration comes in many different forms and usually when your least expecting it.

A year ago I came across a small logo that I felt very passionate about but couldn’t quite stick how to showcase it in a different light. I ended up throwing in my library of pictures. Almost a year later, I decided to revisit the vault to find this inspirational quote sitting exactly where it was left. For some reason, a light bulb went off and the layouts and logos started pouring out.

What you see below is the finalized version of the design released just in time for WMC FEST*. It’s available for Pre-Order right now! Go claim your size in advance!

* Weapons of Mass Creation is a designers’ haven founded by Jeff Finley (Design Guru). The original logo was created for the festival by Brandon Rike and continues to hold true. I recommend visiting the website or taking the trip to WMC if you get ever get a chance!

DMB Caravan Countdown Day 1 – Dispatch

In order to prepare myself for this weekend’s upcoming Dispatch show, I checked out The Last Dispatch documentary which details the steps leading up to the band’s “final concert.” Dispatch along with Napster are the original dudes behind making music free and accessible to everyone. Their ‘last concert’ drew a crowd of over 110,000 fans to witness their free show.

After listening to some Dispatch jam sessions its hard to believe these guys had to break up because of fighting when the music they create together is so amazingly cohesive.

I’m stoked these guys are giving it another go at touring after this spring’s release of Dispatch EP!

This guy’s musical career includes founding the jam band Gov’t Mule, rocking with The Allman Brothers Band, and frequently touring with Phil Lesh and Friends/The Dead. I’m stoked to catch Warren Haynes live once again and can only hope that Dave brings him on stage for a sweet guest appearance with the band.

Gogol Bordello’s task is to provoke audience out of post-modern aesthetic swamp onto a neo-optimistic communal movement towards new sources of authentic energy. With acts of music, theatre, chaos and sorcery Gogol Bordello confronts the jaded and irony-diseased. Our treatment of the traditional material is free with us, but is not irony-driven and thus real. Our theatre is chaotic and spontaneous and because of that is alarming and response provoking.
From where we stand it is clear that World’s cultures contain material for endless art possibilities and new mind-stretching combinations, raw joy and survival energy. We chose to work with Gypsy, Cabaret and punk traditions. It’s what we know and feel. And so many more are possible that can make the beloved statement of post-modernism “everything is been done” sound as an intellectual error.
